At Dr. Phillips Chiropractic, our chiropractor believes in taking a holistic approach to many common medical conditions, including TMJ disorder. Specifically, TMJ disorder is a condition that causes severe jaw pain and other symptoms around the temporomandibular joint (the area where your jaw hinges to the skull on either side). TMJ disorder can be caused by an injury (such as blunt trauma to the jaw) or improper development of the jaw.
In our San Antonio office, we specialize in the non-invasive and drug-free treatment of TMJ disorder and the symptoms that can arise as a result.
Aside from jaw pain, one of the more common symptoms those with TMJ disorder report is that of headaches or migraines. TMJ disorders can cause migraines and headaches due to the tension in the jaw. Furthermore, when you have a TMJ disorder, your the TMJ joints are not in proper alignment. As a result, the muscles and tendons on one side of the jaw tend to be utilized more than the other side, causing strain. Furthermore, poor alignment can cause excessive nerve pressure, resulting in pain and inflammation that can radiate throughout the face and cause headaches or migraines.
The good news is that chiropractic treatments can be effective in treating TMJ and thus relieving your ongoing headaches, migraines, and other symptoms. Some of the methods we use here in our San Antonio office to treat TMJ disorders include:
Specifically, our chiropractor have found that cold laser therapy can be effective in reducing tension in the jaw, which in-turn reduces inflammation and pain. From there, we may focus on other methods, such as adjustments, to help better align the spine and entire body, including the jaw.
If you're suffering from TMJ pain and subsequent headaches or migraines, it's time to see a chiropractor who specializes in this treatment. Give Dr. Phillips Chiropractic a call today at (210) 545-1144 to set up your appointment with us.
