Whiplash is a common injury among athletes and people who have experienced automobile accidents, particularly those who have been rear-ended. It is not a simple ailment, as the forces on the body that are brought to bear in order to cause whiplash are complex and vary with each instance. This can make treatment of whiplash tricky for traditional approaches, and often unsuccessful, particularly when the symptoms are the only thing the treatment addresses. Many treatment options are not good for tackling soft tissue injury. Chiropractic goes straight to work on bone and muscle, easing symptoms rapidly by making real change in the problem areas without drugs or surgery.
Chiropractic care is different as far as treatment options go. Chiropractic targets the core of the problem, the joints of the spine and shoulders. This makes the foundation for the soft tissue sound and aligned again, and makes it possible to relieve stress on the strained or damaged muscles that work across each of the joints. Chiropractic doesn't just target one problem jointly but looks at gait, posture, and range of motion as injuries tend to cause problems in neighboring areas, or even seemingly unrelated areas as patients try to cope with pain and loss of function. Muscular relaxation techniques such as massage therapy, ultrasound, hot and cold therapies, and electrical stimulation therapies, are used before chiropractic adjustment in order to make it easier to move the bones back into place, making the chiropractic treatment doubly effective in reducing pain and allowing the body to heal itself. The muscle relaxation and joint alignment is also beneficial because it helps the body move fluids from swelling, reduces inflammation, and improves circulation. All of these benefits work to facilitate healing in a way that pain medication just can't touch. Chiropractic follows its treatments with muscle strengthening exercises that help to stabilize each affected joint, and nutritional and lifestyle counseling to help each patient improve their healing potential.
